For those of you who happen to stay in an area where there is plenty of rain throughout the year, it goes without saying that you ought to always have an umbrella handy somewhere – in your car, at the office and at home. Just in case, you know. With global warming happening, the weather sure gets crazy this time around. Unfortunately, wet umbrellas can be a pain to store especially when indoors, which is why the Inbrela Collapsible Umbrella could come in handy. This umbrella will be able to fold into the tube itself – making your car stay nice and dry, while making it a snap to get in and out of cars with but a simply push. When pushed open, the Inbrela will pop out of its tube and opens away from your face. Pull it back into the tube to close for dry surroundings. Don’t worry about its sturdiness – it is made out of flexible aluminum ribs that will not snap even in the wind. The Inbrela Collapsible Umbrella will retail for $29.99 each.

Archerfish Solo – the thinking camera

We would say that most cameras are dumb and require intelligent input to be of any use, but the Archerfish Solo aims to buck the trend by being the first “thinking” camera in the world. Having been introduced at CES earlier this January, the
Cernium-developed Archerfish Solo is actually a compact, wireless, IP video camera that was specially designed for homes and small business, boasting the brains to look out for stuff that matters to you. It is smart enough to differentiate between events that matter to you, including your merry bunch of kids arriving home from school safely, as well as identifying potential break-ins, where all these will be sent to your cellphone or email account. Best of all is, the Archerfish Solo is cloud-based and hence doesn’t need a PC connection since it can be managed entirely through a Web portal.

Wind Up Socket Concept Timer

Here is an interesting concept that allows the user to save energy, the easy way.

Think of it as a power strip made up of egg timers. Even if you’re too young to know what an egg timer is, you can still figure out how to use it. Just turn it to the proper setting, and it will tick down until the bell goes off. It’s technology that has been almost completely replaced with digital clocks. My children have never seen one, I’m sure.

The Wind up Socket is designed to save energy by plugging in your device, and then turning it to the time that you want it to run. It’s perfect for devices that don’t need to be always plugged in.

The Wind Up Socket is so easy that even your grandmother can use it. I realize that this could come across as a slam to most senior citizens, but hey, just watch her try to program a VCR. She still hasn’t figured out that the VCR has been replaced by DVR. She probably still uses egg timers, though.

Of course, this looks like an easy way to get your cords tangled up, doesn’t it? That seems like an obvious design flaw in an otherwise good-intentioned idea from designers Dongwon Joo and Jieun Choi. Perhaps that figure out another way of doing this idea by simply putting dials near the plugs, not as the plugs.

Switch Me Uses Pain To Change Your Ways

Sometimes it’s just tough remembering to be careful about all of your energy consumption. There are those that are naturally great at it, but unfortunately we’re just not all that way. Well if you’d like to force yourself to change your ways, then this is one way to do it. If nothing else you’ll start to think about it when you turn on your lights. Either that or you’ll learn to move your fingers out of the way really quick.


With this it wouldn’t be so bad to turn off the light, it’s just going to sting a little bit when you turn them on. This was designed by a French designer, Josselin Zargouche. That does mean that you won’t be able to purchase this light switch rigged up like a mouse trap. You could always attempt to make your own though. Then you could put it in a room that you or your family have the tendency to turn on the lights too much within.

They say that a picture speaks a thousand words, but we guess a short paragraph on your current weight is enough with the Diet Scale that you see here. Courtesy of Ji Lee, this unique design lets you know what you are supposed to eat according to your weight, although we do wish that the menu can change dynamically since it would be pretty boring to gorge on Deep Fried Pork Loin every single day, eh? Would definitely be a hit if that were the case, alongside a small segment that would display your actual weight, perhaps?
